Dr. Liz Alden Wily

Liz is a scholar-activist specialising in community lands, Indigenous Peoples, and Afro-Descendants. She holds a PhD in Political Economy of Property.
Liz works with communities, NGOs, INGOs and governments on new national land policies and land laws, with most of her work occurring in African countries, as well as in Afghanistan and Nepal.
Liz is focused on assisting in the content of new national land policies and land laws. Most of her work has been in Africa, most significantly in Ghana, Botswana, Namibia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Liberia, Cameroon, Gabon, Sudan and South Sudan. She has also worked extensively in Afghanistan and Nepal.
Liz is a Fellow of the Katiba Institute, a constitutional advocacy body, as well as a longstanding Fellow of the Rights and Resources Initiative. She is also a Fellow and part-time staff at the Van Vollenhoven Institute for Law, Land and Society in the Leiden Law School, Netherlands. She has published since the 1970s on community land rights matters, most recently undertaking detailed scrutiny of land, forest and pastoral laws in all African states.
