Margherita Cornaglia

Margherita is a barrister at Landmark Chambers whose practice focuses on climate and environmental justice across public, human rights, civil and corporate law.

She has expertise in strategic climate litigation against public and private entities and advises on issues at the intersection of environmental protection, human rights and business accountability.

Margherita's experience spans judicial and non-judicial forums, including complaints before OECD National Contact Points, and she is instructed by NGOs, funders and corporates on litigation and regulatory matters involving climate risk, biodiversity, environmental harms and greenwashing.

Margherita’s public law work includes challenges concerning the UK Government's climate adaptation policies under Part 4 of the Climate Change Act and judicial review relating to contaminated land and airborne pollutants. Internationally, she has contributed to matters before the European Court of Human Rights and supported submissions in advisory opinion proceedings on climate obligations before the International Court of Justice and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.

In private and transnational matters, Margherita represents claimants in environmental harm and climate damages cases against corporate actors, and advises on claims addressing supply-chain deforestation, advertised emissions and consumer protection issues.

She has also advised on emerging regulatory regimes, including the EU Deforestation Regulation and the EU Taxonomy, and on voluntary carbon markets, integrity of net zero commitments and climate contracting.
