Abimbola joined Brunel University London as Professor of Law in July 2000. Since that date, he has held numerous positions at the university.

Until recently, he served as the Head of the Division of Public and International Law there. He has authored numerous articles and written a book on the taxation of income. He is a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.
