Peter is a trustee of various charities active in faith, education and music and a non-executive director of Trading 212 UK Ltd. 

He was the legal director (general counsel) at HM Treasury from 2017 to 2025, working with successive Chancellors of the Exchequer and senior civil servants. He was previously a partner at Weil Gotshal & Manges (2008-2017), Shearman & Sterling (2003-2008) and Linklaters (1990-2003), working mainly on corporate matters. He was global co-chair of the pro bono practice at Weil and was also chair of the Pro Bono Committee of the International Bar Association.
