
Steven Schulman

Steven Schulman has served as Akin’s Pro Bono Partner for the past two decades, leading its global pro bono practice. Under his leadership, the firm has greatly expanded the scope of its pro bono efforts, in areas ranging from human rights to corporate governance to law reform. In his own work, Steven focuses on human rights and refugee matters, representing individuals seeking humanitarian protections and advocating for just immigration policies. He also served as counsel on two leading international human rights litigations in US courts: Yousuf v. Samantar and Mamani v. Sanchez de Lozada. Prior to joining Akin, he served as Latham & Watkins first Pro Bono Counsel.
Steven has served as a board member for many non-profit organizations, including two terms as the President of the Association of Pro Bono Counsel (APBCo). He also teaches as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center, University of Southern California and Southern Methodist University.
